Pictured at left is the original "Shingle-Dog." Although many people call Don Dotson the "shingle-dog," Perry was the inspiration. Perry and Don met through Don's wife's Dog Rescue escapades. Perry had a life that is best not gone into. The only thing more sad than the way people had treated Perry is that they sometimes treat each other the same way. Perry was the "James Dean" of the dog world... this dog was really cool! He'd go to work with Don and hang out in and around the truck. He never bothered anyone and loved playing with tennis balls or taking long walks in the woods. On the way home from work, Perry enjoyed stopping at Burger King. Standard fare was coffee for Don and two plain burgers for Perry (he was a big fan of flame broiling!

When a company incorporates, their name is protected. Dotson Construction couldn't be used due to a company with a one letter difference who operated in the same area. After the fifth attempt at finding an unregistered company name, Don was driving down Rt. 83 in Avon Lake when his CPA called to tell him that his idea of using his initials wouldn't work either. Perry was in the process of wolfing down his second burger of the day when Don glanced over and laughed. "Bill," he said, "We're going to call it "Shingle Dog!"

This page was put up not so much as a trivia resource, but a tribute to Perry and as a thank you to Don's wife, Angela, as well as to Dr. Randall and everyone else involved in the rescue efforts stemming from Perry's seizure and his return to health. Thank you for the opportunity to know that during the last leg of his life, Perry was secure and happy.
